Who we are
Foundation for the Advancement of Orthopedics Inc. (FAO) is a Philippine nonprofit dedicated to strengthening orthopedic surgery, training, and patient outcomes. We channel resources toward programs that help surgeons learn, innovate, and deliver better musculoskeletal care.
Our work aligns with the academic and clinical mission of orthopedics at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH)—the country’s premier teaching hospital—where generations of orthopedic specialists have been trained since the formal department was established in 1971.

FAO supports initiatives across the continuum of orthopedic care and education:
Education first
PGH orthopedics has trained hundreds of surgeons who serve across the Philippines. FAO helps sustain that pipeline through scholarships, skills labs, and faculty development.
Philippine General Hospital
PGH on Taft Avenue in Ermita, Manila, is the clinical home of UPCM orthopedics. The department operates specialized sections—including adult orthopedics, trauma, spine, pediatric orthopedics, and hand surgery—and facilities such as the Spine Unit and Orthopedic Learning Center.
FAO’s presence at PGH reflects our belief that advancing orthopedics in the Philippines begins where training, research, and high-volume patient care meet.
